A skin tag, also known as an achrochordon , is a benign growth of skin that is connected to the body by a short stalk. Skin tags (acrochordons) are small growths of skin that some people develop on the face, neck, armpits, and the groin.

Skin tags can vary quite a bit in appearance. They may be smooth or irregular, flesh colored or more deeply pigmented, and either simply be raised above the surrounding skin or have a stalk (a peduncle) so that the skin tag hangs from the skin.

Causes of Skin Tags

It is not know what causes skin tags. However, the following factors may play a role:

    * Chaffing and irritation from skin rubbing together.
    * The develop skin tags is inherited (runs in families).
    * skin tags is for some pregnant women to develop tiny polyps, called skin tags.
    * Skin tags are made up of loosely arranged collagen fibers and blood vessels surrounded by a thickened or thinned-out epidermis.
    * Skin tags at first may appear as tiny soft bumps on the skin.

Symptoms of Skin Tags

There are some Symptoms of Skin Tags

    * skin-colored, occasionally darker
    * Skin Tags develop on the face, neck, armpits, and the groin.
    * Skin Tags very small but sometimes half an inch long.

Treatment of Skin Tags

skin tag is irritated or cosmetically unwanted, treatment may be done by surgical removal, liquid nitrogen to freeze and electrically burning off.

    * The simplest treatment is surgical removal, usually with scissors, to snip the skin tag off. This should be done by your healthcare practitioner, and not attempted at home.
    * Another removal method is the use of liquid nitrogen to freeze the growth.
    * Another removal method is the use of electrically burning off (cautery).
